70-90 of which 20-25 will be stay in host families. The rest are residential at the school.

Summary of course:  Ih Belfast operates a four week young learner Summer course based at Queens’ University Belfast.

This programme is continuous enrolment meaning that new students arrive at the beginning of each week and leave depending on their booking. The academic course is planned per week and will incorporate a specific theme across all levels. All classes will include development of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and skills based on a specific theme (example from past courses include “We are scientists”, “Music week” etc.).This theme is chosen to encourage task based learning and CLIL, in that students will be developing a project for presentation at the end of each week.  

The role of Centre Manager will branch between logistical and academic. Your duties will be based on your current academic qualifications (DELTA or QTS). A DELTA qualification is required for academic support such as teacher observations and delivery of in house training. Those with QTS will take on a more logistical and pastoral role. However, the overall role will branch between academic and logistical as required by the centre. You will oversee the overall running of the centre. You will be responsible for the welfare of students and as a residential member of staff you will be the first emergency point of contact at the centre at night time. As a management role you will be expected to set an example of enthusiasm and motivation at all times.    

Academic duties

  • Provide academic support to ensure staff demonstrate teaching skills in accordance with International House Charter. Provide lesson observations and feedback when appropriate (DELTA qualification required).  Ih Belfast undergoes yearly inspections during July in order to assess all courses offered.
  • Oversee placement testing when students arrive at centre.
  • Participate in delivery of induction for teachers and activity staff.
  • Ensure teaching staff have all materials and other resources set up and available for them.
  • Teaching as standby when required (EFL qualification required).
  • Ensure that teachers keep all academic records up to date and complete individual student reports as students leave.  This includes post lesson plans and registers.
  • Deliver teacher meetings and in house training. Regularity of teacher training will depend on teacher needs. This will be based on observations and teacher requests.

WELFARE

·        Account for all students in the residence.

·        Be the first point of contact for all issues regarding residences.

·        Ensure all students are adhering to the behaviour guidelines for residences.

·        Ensure all students are in their rooms and settled by ‘lights out’.

·        Be responsible for the individuals whilst in residence.

·        Account for all individuals prior to any excursions/activities/lessons.

·        Ensure the individual student know their departure dates and ensure they are ready for this.

Activity & Excursion Programme Delivery

  •  Ensure Activity staff are organising and co-ordinating a day & evening programme for clients. 
  • Co-ordinating all staff for half day and full day excursions.
  • Ensure Activity staff deliver a fun and varied social programme in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Requirements

·        DELTA or equivalent is essential. Applicants with no EFL experience must have QTS.

·        Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

·        The nature of the programme means it involves a high level of energy and dedication. Applicants must have a sincere interest in the uniqueness of the academic programme as well as a willingness to show an example of enthusiasm and motivation to their learners during activities at all times.

Desirable

  • Previous managerial experience or experience in a senior teaching role.
  • Previous experience working with younger learners.  
  • Previous experience working in a summer school environment.
  • Previous experience of promoting welfare and safeguarding children.

You will be expected to complete a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service). Academic induction will include training in safeguarding children regardless of previous training.
