Job Description: 

Because of visa and work permit requirements, we are only able to consider applications from those with the right to work in the EU.  Full mastery of English across all 4 skills to CEFR C2/IELTS band 9 required.

In addition to teaching up to a maximum of 12 hours a week she/he has responsibility for:


  • Planning + devising the academic calendar for the school (monthly overview of important dates etc.)
  • Preparing / updating the academic timetable (Mon – Sat)
  • Placement testing in school + placement testing, grouping and timetabling of off-site company students
  • Recording / updating student numbers
  • Dealing with student difficulties + tutorials / free help for weak students
  • Checking students are in the correct level
  • Overseeing continuous assessment
  • Test administration, preparing student report cards etc.
  • Supervising / Writing end of semester tests + company tests
  • Dealing with Cambridge exams within the school - mocks; promotion; enrolments; mock orals, information to teachers, students & parents, recording Cambridge exam results etc.
  • Writing / Choosing material for special courses
  • Dealing with complaints – students / parents
  • Organising Parents’ Evenings


  • Orientation + settling in of new teachers
  • Preparing Teacher’s Pack at beginning of academic year (e.g. teacher's handbook / level information docs etc.)
  • Allocating provisional timetables to teachers (levels / working hours etc.)
  • Updating timetables throughout the academic year
  • Providing development and for teachers – seminars; observations + feedback; teacher support (including dealing with complaints)
  • Organising regular staff meetings
  • Organising ‘extra’ workshops – both on + off-site
  • PD Interviews and end of year reports for teachers who want to transfer


  • Stand-by teaching
  • Maintaining and improving educational standards
  • Expanding and developing services offered to learners
  • Selecting coursebooks, liaising with publishers
  • Updating and maintaining records / inventory of coursebooks, supplementary books, CDs, CD-Roms etc in Teachers’ room (usually done at the end of the academic year)
  • Doing PR / organising social events
  • Attending DoS meetings – DoS Portugal + DoS conference
  • Representing IH at conferences & symposia
Initial EFL Qualification Required: 
Trinity TESOL, or
IH Certificate, or
other equivalent qualification
Higher EFL Qualification Required: 
Trinity Diploma
other equivalent qualification

Additional Skills Preferred:
