IH Madrid are recruiting for teaching positions. Timetables will be a combination of Adults and YL teaching. We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced teachers who enjoy teaching all class types; adults, young learners and business. IH Madrid is a large, busy school with several centres across the city where you will have the opportunity to teach a diverse range of levels and class types. We have a well established professional development programme and offer our teachers a wide range of training courses. There are also opportunities for taking on responsibility within the school. Previous experience and enthusiasm for teaching YLs is essential. The ideal candidates will have YL certification and experience, and be willing to teach children of all ages. A reasonable level of Spanish is also desirable, but not essential.
Teachers should expect to have at least 19 hours of teaching on their timetables, with the possibility of teaching up to 21 hours. All timetables will involve teaching children or teens, plus teaching general English adult classes.
You will usually be programmed in for at least 3 hours of standby a week and will be teaching on Saturday mornings. You will be expected to participate actively in the Professional Development Programme. First year teachers are required to teach Saturdays for at least 2 years.
It is likely that teachers will have a mix of young learners, general adults English and possibly some in company classes as well.
If you have more than 6 hours of classes offsite or 4 journeys in your working week, your monthly travelcard will be refunded.
Some basic advice can be given regarding accommodation, but you will need to make contacts and visit flats yourself. Expect to pay about 400 euros for a room in a shared flat (for a clear idea of prices in Madrid, have a look at the city cost guide on TEFL.com). There is currently no settling in allowance, but you can ask for an advance of up to 300 euros on your salary or an interest free loan to cover the cost of a deposit on a flat.
Spanish Classes. As far as the classes on offer fit in with your timetable you should be able to attend up to 2 hours of classes a week. Priority will be given to those with a low level of Spanish.
Teachers who earn more than 200 credits in our Professional Development programme receive an increment on the salary for following year.
