Why IH Sofia?
We offer you great opportunities to continue your professional development and for many to start your career with IHWO. Learn to deliver high quality lessons as part of a positive, motivated teaching team in an expanding centre.
In your first year
Settle in to Bulgaria and your new job with a clear induction programme, help with finding accommodation and processing documentation. You will teach a minimum of 20 hours face-to-face each week, with support from an experienced teacher during your first 6 months. You can expect your Bulgarian students to be engaged, curious and keen to learn.
Structure your professional development around your interests and attend fortnightly training sessions to hone your teaching skills and make your lessons more engaging. Learn to use interactive whiteboards, and take the Cambridge Language Awareness Course then an IHWO OTTI self-study course with 50% of the fee covered by IH Sofia.
As far as life outside the centre is concerned, Bulgaria is one of the lowest-priced countries in Europe. The salary is €1,500, but you would expect to pay around €200-300 for furnished accommodation in or near the centre of the capital, €30 for a night in a quality spa or beach hotel, €10 for a 3 course meal and €1.5 for a beer at the bar! You can join various sports & social clubs and ski or hike in under an hour from your door. In the summer, go to an outdoor concert and camp by the sea. By the end of a busy first year, without being too frugal, you could still have saved 5,000 Euros in your bank account.

In your second year
Get ready to make yourself highly attractive to future employers by attending courses and relevant professional development (http://ihworld.com/online-training) such as; Young Learners and Teens, Business, Exam Preparation, or possibly becoming an examiner for international exams.
By the end of the second year, you’ll be an expert in Thracian culture and Bulgarian wineries, climbed the highest mountain in the Balkans, soaked up Istanbul, chilled on your favourite Greek beach and survived a day in Dracula’s castle - all within a day’s drive of Sofia.
If it’s time to move on, we’ll help you apply for your next job but we believe you won’t want to leave.
IH Sofia puts students’ language acquisition and welfare at a premium so we employ teachers with a professional, positive ‘can-do’ approach to their teaching. Our work with young learners requires you to confirm that you are safe to work with children and have no relevant criminal convictions.
